Wilson Sporting Goods, a company with a rich history dating back to 1914, only recently entered the realm of brick-and-mortar retail stores. Their first physical store opened in July 2021 in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood. This 2,247-square-foot location offers a curated selection of Wilson’s high-performance sports equipment and their new athletic-lifestyle sportswear collection. This store serves as a hub for customers to interact with the brand’s products and experience its rich heritage, complete with historical artifacts and a museum-like environment.

The decision to open physical stores was driven by a desire to control the brand narrative and provide customers with a direct, immersive experience of Wilson’s offerings. Prior to this, Wilson primarily sold through wholesale partners like Dick’s Sporting Goods and via pop-up shops at major sporting events.

Following the success of their first store, Wilson has continued to expand its retail footprint, including locations in New York, Los Angeles, and Santa Monica, with plans to open more stores both in the U.S. and internationally. These stores often include experiential elements like play/test areas and customization services, enhancing the overall shopping experience.

Brostocks visited the flagship Wilson store in New York City’s Soho neighborhood at 594 Broadway which was a very impressive retail experience that included a tennis wall and basketball hoop that customers can use to test products. The video from our visit is below.
