Spirit Airlines First Class? A Review of Spirit’s “Big Front Seat”

Flying in Spirit Airlines’ “Big Seat”: Is It Worth It?

If you’ve ever flown Spirit Airlines, you know it’s all about getting from Point A to Point B on a budget. But for my recent flight from Las Vegas to Pittsburgh, I decided to splurge on their “Big Seat,” Spirit’s answer to first class. As someone who’s 6’4”, I usually find Spirit unbearable, but this time was a game-changer.

The Pros

The Big Seat truly delivers on comfort. According to NerdWallet, these seats have a 36-inch pitch (with curved seatbacks for extra knee space) and an 18.5-inch width, giving you 6 more inches of legroom compared to Spirit’s standard seats. As someone who’s always cramped on flights, this made all the difference. The seat was spacious and well-cushioned, which made the longer flight far more bearable.

Another perk? Free drinks and snacks. It was refreshing to get a taste of premium service on a budget airline. Plus, being in the front of the plane means you board with Group 1 and can deplane quickly—huge for anyone who values efficiency.

My $253.99 total price tag (after all taxes, fees, etc) also included a free checked bag, which added to the value.

The Cons

Not everything was smooth sailing. There’s no power supply at the seats, which is a bit disappointing for a premium experience. Spirit also advertises free Wi-Fi for Big Seat customers, but it didn’t work for me. I ended up paying for Wi-Fi and had to request a refund later—a frustrating hiccup in an otherwise positive experience.

Is It Worth It?

For me, the Big Seat was absolutely worth it, especially for a longer flight. The extra comfort and legroom were essential given my height, and the perks like early boarding and a free checked bag sweetened the deal. If you’re someone who struggles with Spirit’s standard seats or just want a more comfortable flight without going full first class, the Big Seat is a solid option.
